Students from Cowra High School, Cowra Public School, Mulyan Public School and Holmwood Public School will travel to Sydney to take part in the showcase on November 24 and 25.
Cowra High School will be sending 16 dancers, including three featured artists, nine drama students and Jessica Bowman has been chosen to take part in Backstage.
Head teacher of Creative and Performing Arts, Kerrie O’Dea, said it was a great feat for the school.
“We are very excited, it’s a big opportunity for the kids to perform at such a big venue,” she said.
The combined dancers will be performing to “Can’t Buy Me Love” and have been rehearsing with Blayney High School, Denison College, The Canobolas Rural Technology High School and Gulgong High School.
“Our dance group is made up of students from Year 7 to Year 11, we have one boy and it’s the first time we’ve had a boy,” dance teacher Alison Buckley said.
Ms Buckley said the three featured dancers, Nicola Carter (jazz/musical theatre), Chloe Fricker (musical theatre) and Hope Martin Edgar (tap) have been working hard on their routines.
“There is huge pressure on them but they’ve had a great time and lots of rehearsals,” she said.
“Nicola, her workload is enormous. Hope is in Year 12 so she is sitting her HSC and dancing, it’s a huge ask but she has been having a ball.”
For the first time ever, a drama ensemble is being featured in the Schools Spectacular, with Cowra High School chosen as one of eight schools to take part.
They will be performing with “massive, magnificent puppets” in a How To Train Your Dragon-inspired piece.
Sixteen CHS students from Years 7 – 12 in the Wagambirra Dance Group will be performing at the show and Jesse Murray and Imajen James are in the NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.
Schools Spectacular will take place at Qudos Bank Arena and tickets are available at Ticketek.
