Spring has arrived and the Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre will host Sakura Matsuri – the Cherry Blossom Festival - on Saturday, September 23.

The Family Fun Day will run from 10am to 4pm with entertainment and demonstrations including:

  • Taiko Drummers
  • Sumo Wrestlers
  • Martial Arts
  • Sydney Sakura Choir
  • Japanese Soprano Misako Piper
  • Tea Ceremonies
  • Ikebana (flower arranging)
  • Shibori (Japanese textiles) by Maureen Locke-McLean
  • Bonsai
  • Japanese Dance
  • and our very own Torsion Youth Choreographic Ensemble.

There will be a free jumping castle and fairy floss for the children as well.

Stall holders will be offering food, ceramics, clothing, crafts, ice cream, jewellery and a whole lot more.

Entry for the festival is $20 adult, $18 concession, $15 child or $60 for a family pass.

Entry is free if you have a Friend of the Garden pass.

Friends of the Garden members are invited to attend, tickets cost $35 per person.

The Service of Respect will be held at the Australian and Japanese War Cemeteries commencing at 10am on Sunday, September 24.

Sakura Matsuri is a major event on Cowra's tourism calendar, celebrating the birth of spring. It attracts performers from across Australia and around the world.

Sakura at the Cowra Japanese Garden is celebrated annually in September when the cherry blossoms are at their peak. The cherry blossoms usually continue to flower up until mid October.
