The Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards will be held in the Cowra Regional Art Gallery from the opening night on Friday, October 13 until October 29 with entry to the Gallery being free.
The Cowra Art Group are organising the Awards, with the support of Cowra Shire Council.
The Cowra Regional Art Gallery and wonderful local sponsors, need to receive artists’ entry forms by Friday, September 29, and would like to remind artists that mail sometimes takes longer than they expect, so entries should be sent as soon as possible.
The major Award of $1,000 is the Barbara Bennett Memorial Award for the outstanding work in the exhibition, and there are four separate awards of $500.
These are:
- The Steel Walsh and Murphy Award for Painting in Oils and/or Acrylic
- The Cowra Services Club Award for Drawing/Printmaking
- The Waugoola Motors Award for Watercolour, Pastel or Mixed Media
- The Webster Optometrists/Cowra Art Group Award for Miniatures
There is also a Patron’s Award of $300 for the People’s Choice Award to be voted for over the course of the exhibition.
This is the ninth time that the Biennial Exhibition has been staged in the Cowra Regional Art Gallery with over 120 entries usually received for exhibition.
All entries are hung, giving artists from different art backgrounds and exhibition experiences in the 100 km radius of Cowra an opportunity to see their work displayed professionally in a purpose built gallery and reach new audiences.
The Judge this year is Bradley Hammond who is currently the Director of Orange Regional Gallery and Orange Regional Museum.
Brad, originally a South African, has wide experience in many facets of art, and brings a wealth of experience to the task, having studied and worked overseas and more recently in Australia as the Collections Manager at the Orange Regional Gallery since 2011, as an Education and Public Programs Officer at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery and as a Researcher at the Australians at War Film Archive.
