Cowra region writers are welcome to attend the Central West Freelance Writers’ Group Sunday brunch on August 20 at the Cowra Japanese Garden.
Each month the group meets in a different town in the Central West and it will be the first time this year-old group will come to Cowra.
Writers of fiction, non-fiction, any genre, who are paid or not for their writing are welcome to attend.
Co-founder Margaret Paton said: “We span all genres and are from novices to professionals who earn from their writing”.
“We range from blogger, podcaster, non-fiction book author, historical fiction much-published author, journalist, copywriter, naturist writer (writes about what they see in nature), scriptwriter, children’s book author, poet, science fiction novelist/short writers, newspaper editor, content marketing writer and more.
“At each meeting, we have about six to a dozen writers, but they’re not always the same people.
“That brings a bit of freshness to our discussions, we chat about our writing tips, gripes, hopes and successes and sometimes bring a piece of our writer for others to share their feedback.
“It’s informal so we’re not about being savage critics,” she said.
Cowra writer Rosi Hall is looking to attend the event.
Rosi is a fiction writer working on her second manuscript.
“I have been wanting to get a local writers’ group going for a while,” Rosi said.
“This brunch is a great opportunity for writers in the local area to get together in a laid-back environment.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in being part of a writers’ group in Cowra to come along,” Rosi said.
The group also has a closed Facebook page (Central West Freelance Writers Group) which has about 30 members.
“At one of our meetings, one of our members ran a short masterclass on how to get the most out of using the global job platform, Upwork as a writer,” Ms Paton said.
“We’re looking at holding other masterclasses/workshops in the future including a one-day writers’ retreat/long lunch at Shalom in Carcoar in February.
There’s no cost to attend the Sunday brunch, just buy your own cuppa/brunch.
The brunch will be held from 10am to noon, but to secure your seat please RSVP to Margaret.firstname.lastname@example.org or 0417 423 812.
