Teams contested under 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s age groups.
Under 10s
Cowra’s under 10s girls went through the day undefeated, scoring wins over Grenfell, Young, Wellington and Wagga.
The under 10s didn't concede a goal all day, showing they dominated all matches.
Whilst the under 10s is classed non competitive, it is still a great effort to go undefeated and coach Mick Densmore would be very proud of his team .
Under 12s
The under 12s Cowra girls scored wins against Bathurst, Wagga (a rematch of Country Cup final), South West Slopes and Wellington, qualifying as the first team in the final.
In the decider the girls played a strong Brindabella outfit.
Although Brindabella had the better of the first half, Cowra’s defence held strong and headed to half time nil-all.
Cowra scored early in the second-half and that score remained.
Cowra finished 1-0 winners.
The 12s also did not concede a goal all day, which is a huge effort considering the quality of opposition.
Under 14s
Cowra’s under 14s girls had a very strong pool of teams and faced a huge effort to make it out of the pool stage.
After a first up loss to Bathurst going down 1-0, the girls then faced two Canberra teams and Wagga.
The under 14s put in some great efforts but finished winless for the day.
Showing how strong their pool was the two finalist came from that pool, Wagga and Brindabella.
In what was a great final Wagga finished victorious.
The Cowra under 14 girls have done a great job this season with many of the girls playing representative soccer for the first time and for some girls it was their first year of soccer. So great job girls.
Under 16s
The under 16s started with a draw against Goulburn and Southern Tablelands, then had wins against South West Slopes and V M Wildcats which was enough to put them into the finals.
In the final the girls played Goulburn/Southern Tablelands.
In an end-to-end game Goulburn took the lead before halftime.
Cowra continued to press for the equalizer in the second-half but after losing a striker through injury, the Cowra girls just couldn't find the back of the net. It finished 1-0.
A great effort from these girls who only came together as a team a few weeks ago, as many of the girls work part time they could really only commit to their home carnival.
A great day all up for the local teams and when coaches from Canberra and Wagga comment on the strength of girls soccer in Cowra.
It is a credit to those within the club who have helped the girls, not just in the last couple of years but over the last decade.
