Students and staff came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week on Tuesday with a full program of cultural activities including dances, performances, art and sampling traditional food.

To begin the day, students attended a special assembly in the hall, which was decorated with art and native plants.
The assembly featured a Sunrise Dance from the Wagambirra Dance Group and a talk on Indigenous languages from Elders Aunty Di and Aunty Iris. Both Aunties are involved in a Wiradjuri language course at Dubbo TAFE and spoke about the theme for NAIDOC Week 2017: Our Languages Matter.
“It’s really important that people know and understand to Aborigine people all across Australia, our language matters,” Aunty Di said.
Students also enjoyed a performance by internationally renowned Indigenous dancer and storyteller Sean Choolburra.
