A 59-year-old Cowra man charged of driving with a high range blood-alcohol reading of .186 – more than three times above the legal limit – has been disqualified for six months and must have an interlock device installed for two years.

David Peter Ferson was stopped on the Olympic Highway about 2.35pm on June 1 after consuming two beers between 12pm and 2pm, following a “bout of heavy drinking the night before”, his solicitor Mr Greg Bowen informed Cowra Local Court.
Ferson entered a guilty plea in front of Magistrate Michael O’Brien on Wednesday, July 19.
Mr Bowen said Ferson had been “abstinent” during the week prior to the offence and hadn’t touched alcohol since.
He noted to the court that it was Ferson’s first time before a magistrate.
“It’s unfortunate to see a person of your age and experience find yourself at court,” Magistrate Michael O’Brien said.
“It’s a particularly high reading which would have impaired your ability to make decision quickly.
“You were a threat to yourself, passengers and others on the roadway.”
Ferson was also hit with a $500 fine.
The disqualification was backdated to June 1 when his licence was surrendered to police.
