Aspiring Cowra entrepreneurs are being offered a rare opportunity to turn their business start-up dreams into a reality, Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has announced.

Katrina, a former NSW small business minister and current chair of an inquiry into how best to support regional start-ups, has thrown her support behind the Cowra project, part of a special SBS TV documentary.

The program is calling on residents who have struggled to find work but have a unique business idea to pitch it a special event on Wednesday, August 2 from 10am at St Peters Presbyterian Church.

Successful applicants will take part in an eight-week crash course in business with former Cowra resident Creel Price. Mr Price has had an extraordinary career.

He launched eight businesses before leaving high school, has scaled some of the world's highest mountains, sold a business for more than $100 million before he was 30 and even captained Australia in the World Elephant Polo Championships.

"What Creel has achieved is extraordinary and he proves that a boy from Cowra can conquer the world. His life should act as an inspiration to us all and it's wonderful he remains true to his origins and is giving back to Cowra,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

Since selling his financial services business for $109 million in 2008, Mr Price has travelled the world making a name for himself as an "entrepreneur evangelist" by working with Richard Branson's Centre of Entrepreneurship.
