The Eagles are oozing confidence after thumping Orange City 50-17, and are looking to convert the momentum they’ve gathered and spoil the Boars’ 50th anniversary celebrations in the process.
Despite talk of a second round surge up the ladder, Hayes said it’s all about taking it one week at a time for his new-look eighth placed Eagles.
“Realistically, you can talk it up but we have to take it one week at a time,” Hayes said.
“It’s a tough three or four weeks from here with games against Parkes, Emus and I think Bathurst. We just take it one week at a time.”
Cowra welcomed a number of mid-season signings to their outfit last week, helping them dispose of City so comfortably in a second-half thumping.
Waisele Ratudina and Vilise Rabotini combined for five tries, making up a devastating new-look backline for the Eagles that also includes former Australian Sevens gun John Grant.
Hayes is hopeful of naming the same 15 that started against City – something he hasn’t been able to do this season.
He said his side celebrated last week’s win and are full of confidence ahead of this week’s round 11 Blowes Clothing Cup contest.
“I’m hoping to name an unchanged side. It’s a good position to be in but I’ll have a better indication tonight,” Hayes said.
“The boys are feeling very confident and I think they’ll be confident they can get a win this weekend.
“It going to be a tough one. They have a big pack and they dominated us last time in the year. We need to muscle up.”
Hayes’ challenge this week has been to best prepare his troops in way that utilises their winning momentum.
Focusing on basic things like controlling the ball and being aggressive at the breakdown is what the side’s been working, in an effort to exploit Parkes this weekend.
“We’re working on a few things. We have plenty of confidence.
“We’re trying to take the momentum into this weekend. We just need to stay focused on the little things.
“We want to be dominant in all facets of the game. We want to control the ball and be the dominant side.”
The Boars are running fifth on the competition ladder with 23 points and are coming off a 17-13 loss against Mudgee Wombats last week.
They were too good for the Eagles in the two sides previous encounter this season, winning 27-10 at the Rugby Grounds.
The game starts at 3.15pm this Saturday at Northparkes Oval.
