George has four great passions in life, which have shaped and influenced his life and career – gardening, theatre and music, collecting and travel.
He is a keen gardener, with a passion for all things garden related, devoting a great deal of time and energy to his six-acre garden, Winchelsea, situated in Killabakh. He regularly opens the garden for charity, raising more than $50,000 to date, primarily for Ronald MacDonald House Northern NSW.
He writes a regular gardening column for the local newspaper and bi-monthy garden report for the community bulletin; judges the Potted Plant Section at the Taree and Wingham shows; a member of numerous gardening organisations and contributes a recurrent gardening segment on the local ABC Radio morning show.
In 2015, George was honoured with three Citizen of the Year awards for Outstanding contribution to the community, the arts and gardening.
