Turnbull, O’Shea combine for Mother’s Day Cup win | Photos

Parramatta has added more silverware to his collection with victory in the Mother’s Day Cowra Cup at the Cowra Paceway on Sunday afternoon.

The Amanda Tunbull-trained gelding, driven by John O’Shea, negotiated a tricky barrier eight to get clear by the final turn, setting a blistering 59.2 seconds second-half for a 1:57.3 mile rate.

His 29.2 seconds fourth quarter drew Parramatta clear of the race leaders at the top of the final bend but he was given a late challenge from Condagen who had made a move from the outside.

The result bolsters Parramatta’s collection of trophies in 2017, having won the Orange Banjo Patterson Cup and Cootamundra Wattle Time Cup in February and March.

The earlier Menangle Country Series Heats were won by Peggyville and A Life Under Fire for trainers Nathan Hurst and Lester Hewitt respectively.

Georges Plaines trainer Bernie Hewitt collected the Charlie Muddle Memorial and Sam Agostino Memorial prizes with Gunna Cullect and Taylors Reason.
