The willing workers volunteered their time to clean up and rip out the interior fittings of the cottage for the Cowra Showground Racecourse and Paceway Trust last week.
President of the Trust Ian Donges said it was a great start to the renovation project which was being partly funded by The Trust and a $20,000 grant from the NSW State Government’s Community Building Partnership Program.
The Grant will allow the Trust to fit out a new bathroom and kitchen in the cottage.
This is the start of a refurbishment program to restore the cottage for possible community use.
The Trust has applied for more grants for the project.
Mr Donges thanked the Men’s Shed for their help and said if any other community group would like to be involved in the project they can contact The Trust.
Three new members have also been appointed to the Cowra Showground Trust by the State Government.
Larry Walsh, Steve Mason and Ian Packer will fill the vacancies left by the death of long term Trust Members Peter Ryan and Cec Peterson last year.
They will join President Ian Donges, Treasurer Ruth Fagan, Chris Cummins, Peter Wilson and Council appointed Member Michael Nobes.
President Donges said he welcomed the new members who would bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Trust as they were long time members of the Cowra Show Society and Cowra Jockey Club.
