However it was the Cowra Local Emergency Management Committee conducting their bi-annual airport safety exercise, which is conducted as part of Cowra Airport’s credentials to remain a Civil Aviation Safety Authority certified aerodrome.
The exercise saw members of the Police, NSW Fire and Rescue, the State Emergency Service, NSW Ambulance service, the Rural Fire Service and Cowra Shire Council all partake in a hazmat scenario.
Cowra Fire Station Commander, Chris Murray, said the exercise was a good way for them to practice their training in a way that was as close to real life as possible.
“We all worked very well together,” he said.
“We try to get as many agencies involved and everyone did what they were supposed to do, as it was a hazmat scenario we were the controlling agency.”
“Even if it wasn’t for the accreditation, the exercise is good, it lets us see what works, or what to refine,” he said.
