The minister, Ingrid Robertson and church member, Jacqueline Berry came up with the novel way of raising funds – with a Lego Exhibition and encouraging the children of the area to enter into competitions.

From those small beginnings came the present Lego Exhibition and competitions held every year at the Berowra Uniting Church Hall. 

It has grown and grown, with many Lego enthusiasts helping to make it one of the most special events in the Berowra area.

“Part of the reason why we do the Lego event is to create a positive place where the community can meet. For us, Lego is one of our intergenerational activities,” explains Rev Robertson.

“Grandparents love Lego, and their kids used to play with Lego. Lego is still one point of connection where they spend time together and have fun.”

So this Saturday, March 18 these wonderful people are bringing their exhibition (or most of it) to Cowra, to the Wesley Centre.

They are encouraging all our young people to come and look, make up some of their own to enter into the competitions and bring their families and friends along.

Cowra Uniting Church is encouraging kids here to get their Lego out so they can make it up and bring it along today between 5pm and 7pm, ready for judging and then come on the Saturday to see the big display and all the competitions winners.

We will be raising funds to assist Andrew Morrison, the Scripture teacher at the Cowra High School.

Kids, get your entry forms and get going. Forms are available from Guardian office, Taste Buds, Cowra Newsagency and “Rapt in Gifts.”

There will be Devonshire teas for all, BBQ lunch and afternoon tea available.

Organiser Katherine Tindall said some of the Lego exhibits are magnificent.

“Wait till you see them,” she said.

Today there is seven Legoland amusement parks around the world and 125 Lego specific retail stores in operation – 80 in the US, none in Australia. 

The tallest Lego tower recorded stands at 35.47m, at Legoland in Gunzberg, Germany.
