2013 women’s Stawell Gift winner Davina Struass headlines a talented field of runners including ACT gun Rachel Carnegie and two exciting prospects from the stable of Roger Fabri 14-year-old Chloe Boston and 15-year-old Taliah Lummow.
Carrying a 19m handicap White will need to produce something special having been brought back 3m compared to last year’s winning handicap of 22m.
NSW Athletics League president Bill Edwards is tipping Carnegie but says he won’t be surprised if he’s wrong.
Meanwhile in the men’s Cowra Gift Michael Hanna looms as the favourite having recorded a number of Gift wins.
Hanna will likely find a challenge from ACT runners Lennard King and Jacob Knight as well as Roger Fabri’s trained Michael Kember and Jason Simose who Bill Edwards says has been “knocking on the door of victory” in recent times.
In total $4,500 worth of prizemoney will be shared.
President Bill Edwards praised organiser Geoff White and his family and also the major sponsors saying the event would not go ahead without them.
Racing starts from 12pm with the women’s Cowra Gift final set for 3pm and the men’s to follow.
