The winning portrait is artist Betina Fauvel-Ogden’s first time entering the Archibald Prize. Being awarded the Packing Room Prize for her debut entry came as a complete shock and delight.
Betina Fauvel-Ogden will present a talk about her portrait in the Archibald Prize exhibition at the Gallery on Saturday, January 21 commencing at 1.30pm. All welcome and admission is free.
Next week at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery is workshop week commencing with two days of Art Workshops for Children from 7 to 13 years old.
These unique children’s art activities are presented in a fun environment as well as allowing for the development of individual skills and creative ideas by each of the participants. This summer’s tutors are local artists Catherine Bennett and Ann Morton.
Commencing on Wednesday, January 25 is Mosaic Making with Catherine Bennett. Session one from 9.30am to 12.30pm for 7 to 9 year olds. Each participant will make a surround mosaic mirror using pieces of broken coloured tiles and coloured grout, and ready to hang on a wall at the end of the workshop.
Session two from 1pm to 4pm for participants aged between 10 to 13 years. Participants attending this workshop will decorate a wall sconce, a candle holder that is attached to a wall, using pieces of broken coloured tiles, pieces of mirror and coloured grout. Workshop fees are $35pp for both workshops which include all materials.
Portrait Painting with Ann Morton will take place on Friday, January 27 and participants will create their own portrait on canvas board from a photo they bring to the workshop. Session one is from 10am to 12 noon for 7 to 9 year olds and Session two is from 1pm to 3pm for 10 to 13 year olds Workshop fees are $25 pp which includes all materials.
Portrait Painting From Life with Ann Morton is a special one day workshop for Adults on Saturday, January 28 commencing at 10am to 4pm. During the day participants will develop a portrait working with a model.
Each person will be provided with an easel and table, drawing paper and canvas. All other materials including paints and drawing materials must be provided by the participants. Workshop fee is $55 pp(Friends $45).
