Built in 1890, making it one of Cowra’s oldest remaining homesteads, “Dunrobin” is a mix of the traditional and the modern, with hints of yesteryear but also all of the modern aspects that a home requires in this day and age.
Owners Norm and Georgi Bolitho said it wasn’t an easy decision to pack up and leave such a historic site, but they have a very important reason to do so.
“It’s mainly the grandchildren,” Norm said.
“We want to be closer to the grandkids in Orange, we need to go to them to help with after school care.
“It will be nice to see them more.”
The couple have owned “Dunrobin” since 2008 and spent the first five years renovating the house.
Georgi said she hoped to create the perfect combination of old and new.
“I wanted to blend the two,” she said.
“If you love it, it will all work together.
“I think what the house has achieved, I find it very satisfying.”
Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed after the house was featured in “Country Style” magazine in March 2013.
According to the Bolitho’s, the core of the house was built in 1890, with continual add on’s throughout the years.
The couple also say it was owned by prominent Cowra family, the Matheson’s, before Mary Weingarth made the house into a Bed and Breakfast.
“It’s fairly well known,” Norm said.
“It’s a place that a lot of people connected with, which is fantastic.”
The couple say they have put in a lot of effort to turn it into the home it is today.
“A lot of painting, carpeting, rewiring, removing some of the old add-ons,” George said.
“We have been taking the place back in a lot of areas to what the original was.”
Both Norm and Georgi agree that it will be hard to drive out of the driveway for the last time and make the move to Orange.
“It’s been fantastic, I absolutely love the place,” Georgi said.
“It’s a hell of a wrench to move but it’s time to go onto the next phase of our lives and be there for our grandkids,” Norm said.
“After all these years, it’s been worth it,” Georgi said.
“We are very comfortable here, it’s been a rewarding restoration and we are thrilled it’s all come together.
“It’s not a house, it’s a home and people love coming here.”
