Boyd was introduced from the interchange bench and played 27 minutes in the Aussies’ comprehensive 34-8 win, resulting in the Kangaroos also claiming the number one world ranking.
Boyd was promoted to Mal Meninga’s 17-player squad after Sam Thaiday suffered a fractured eye socket from a head clash with James Graham in the previous match against England.
Boyd, 24, has been impressive during each opportunity he’s had to wear the green and gold.
“It’s been a good experience, I’ve learnt a hell of a lot and met a lot of good blokes. I’m very excited and very privileged,” Boyd said in an interview with NRL.com prior the final.
“It’s been a long tour but I’ve enjoyed every bit of it.”
The Kangaroos flexed their muscles on Monday morning, flying to a 24-0 lead at half-time thanks to a brace from Josh Dugan, and tries to Blake Ferguson and Trent Merrin.
Second half tries from Man of the Match Darius Boyd and Boyd Cordner was the icing on the cake for the Australians.
Shannon registered 10 carries and 18 tackles during his 27 minutes playing time.
He explained how valuable his time in the Aussie camp has been.
“Everyone just know their role, everything’s so crisp when we train. All the little things you pick up on which I think will really help me as a player definitely.
“And playing with high profile players is a good experience for me,” Boyd told NRL.com.
Australian half-back Cooper Cronk was recognised as the Player of the Tournament.
