Cowra Council resolved to establish a Cowra Community Grants Program in May 2015, with two funding rounds of $25,000 each spread over five categories.
The five categories include Arts and Culture, Building and Facility Development, Natural Resource Management, Small Capital Equipment and Sport and Recreation.
At the last Council meeting, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Judi Smith, said there were a lot of worthy recipients of the funding.
“We had 26 applications and we approved the majority of those applications,” Cr Smith said.
“It’s again very pleasing and we had applications from a large number of the villages.”
Cr Smith suggested more guidelines may be put into place before the next lot of funding.
“We had a discussion on what we see as a minimum standard,” Cr Smith said.
“We are continuing to fine tune this process.”
Councillor Ray Walsh said a number of non-for-profits and volunteers were successful applicants.
“The majority of applicants have a large number of volunteers,” Cr Walsh said.
“It’s great that we can reward the work they do.”
United Fusion Incorporated and St Vincent De Paul will receive $1000 each.
The Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club will receive $500 to purchase a new cheat freezer and Carinya, Cowra Japanese Garden, Woodstock Show Inc and Gooloogong Log Cabin Hall will each receive $2000.
The CWA Woodstock Branch, Lachlan Valley Railway Society, Billimari Public Hall and Recreational Trust and the Rotary Club of Cowra will also receive funding under the Building and Facility Development category.
Under Natural Resource Management, the Cowra Woodlands Birds Program will get $968 for the reprint of the Bird Routes of Cowra brochure.
The Merriganowry Progress Association, Cowra Clergy, Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre, Morongla Show Society and CWA Canimbla Branch will all receive around $500 for equipment.
The rest of the funding will go towards sporting organisations such as the Cowra Little Athletics Association, Riding for the Disabled, Cowra Amatuer Swimming Club, the Aussie Rules Club and the Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre.
