I have previously written about the proposed developments of wind power projects in the Boorowa area and how I believe them to be just a monument for politicians, political parties and ‘greenies’ to show they are doing something about Global Warming rather than a serious attempt to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
The recent loss of power to the entire state of South Australia demonstrates that maybe I am right.
South Australian wind power developers such as Trustpower, the proponent of the proposed Rye Park Wind Farm, have indicated us how wind power has enabled South Australia to meet their ‘Green Energy Targets’ and have allowed the turning off of coal powered generators across the state.
What the blackouts have highlighted is the fact that although South Australia are meeting their targets they have in fact been drawing their power from coal fired power stations in Victoria!
You may be asking what this has to do with us in the Boorowa District.
The decision on the Rye Park Wind Power proposal of 109 turbines is pending.
We also now have the Bango Wind Power proposal (CWP Renewables) on public exhibition.
Residents of Boorowa need to be aware that the Bango proposal is in fact only 7kms from Boorowa on the Lachlan Valley Way, is closer to Rye Park than the Rye Park proposal, and will be a further 122 turbines of approximately 200 metres tall.
Do we want our area to become nothing more than a monument to Global Warming or do we want to retain the natural beauty of our landscape and find real ways to save our earth?
