Mr Tuckey was a pioneering motor sport journalist, who had strong ties with Mount Panorama.
Bathurst Regional Council decided to name the media centre after Mr Tuckey following his death earlier this year, in recognition of his contribution to the sport at the Mountain and right across the country.
Bathurst mayor Gary Rush said it was an honour to dedicate the centre to Mr Tuckey.
“Today it is our opportunity at this great race for Bathurst Regional Council to acknowledge and celebrate the life of Bill Tuckey and his involvement in this city and this event,” Cr Rush said.
“I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to meet Bill but I'm sure we would have shared some of the same awareness.”
Mr Tuckey’s son Stuart spoke of his father’s passion for Mount Panorama.
“He spent a lot of time here and he truly loved the Mountain,” he said.
“For dad to be recognised and have the media centre named after him is very humbling for our family.
“When we arrived here this morning and we saw the sign above the media centre I called my wife and I started to cry.
“The emotions started to take over me because it made me remember when we first came here the media centre was a little box under the James Hardie tower.”
