The eight gardens will be on display over two days, October 8 and 9 and $10 admission covers both days, with proceeds going to local charities.
The garden of Charlotte and Jonathan Carroll at 97 Wiltondale Road, Cowra promises a stately Californian Bungalow style home, sweeping lawns, old established trees and magnificent views of the countryside. The couple moved here in 2014 and have opened up a lot of areas.
6 Kanangra Street, opened up by Gerard McGill and Raelene Beecher, together with Masters Oscar and Leuwin McGill, is a garden of retreat, to reflect and relax. There is a maze with different places to hide and fruit trees are a feature of the garden.
Annette and Kevin Lynch’s cottage garden at 48 Liverpool St may be small but has lots of colour with a variety of shrubs, roses and flowers. It has also had apricot trees and an arch added to the garden. The couple get a lot of joy from their garden.
Louise and Ian Packer of “Hillside” at 28 Keswick St says their garden is a work in progress and has evolved since the early 1980’s. Various garden rooms and trees have been added. The latest addition is the espaliered citrus along a new fence.
Thelma Charnock will be opening her small but interesting garden at 29 Coota Lane, which features roses, penstemon, Canterbury bells and pansies. The trees at the back include hibiscus, which shelter plants such as geraniums.
Parkland Gardens at 38 Dawson Drive, Cowra, owned by Gary and Pam McKay, features conifers and a drought hardy rockery. There is also a large shade house, a gazebo and a bird aviary. The Garden Club Plant Stall will be operating at this site on both days. Also a raffle will be held over the two days and drawn on Sunday afternoon.
Having been commenced in 2000, Helen and Neville Tozer’s spacious garden covers 1.25 acres at 58a River Park Road. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meander and mediate as one moves around the space.
Chris and Norm Palazzi will open their one acre garden at 89 Grenfell Road, with both native and introduced plants with an emphasis on easy care with drought and frost tolerance. Most of the garden is less than six years old and a courtyard, chook run and vegetable gardens are included.
Tickets and maps to the gardens are available at the Cowra Visitor Information Centre on 6342 4333.
