McCarron’s iconic collection of Holden cars, signage, spare parts and numerous sundries, including the 46th built 48/215 FX with original 22,000 miles, will all go under the hammer beginning this Friday and going through until Sunday afternoon.
Burns and Co auctioneer Ashley Burns says he expects close to 2000 registered buyers to bid on more than 2000 lots on offer.
“At the moment we have about 400 [registered buyers] but the majority of people register on the day like any auction,” Ashley Burns said.
“We’re putting the finishing touches on all the cars now and getting the presentation ready. We’re gearing up for some wet weather but I’ve spoken to Charlie and the sale will definitely be going ahead.”
According to Mr Burns, this weekend will be the largest scale auction Burns and Co has been involved in, with his company receiving inquiries from around the world.
“I’m not saying this with tongue in cheek but we’ve had inquiries from all over the planet,” he said.
“This is the biggest we’ve done in terms of volume and inquiries. It’s a rarity to have a two day sale but this is three days.
“It’s the uniqueness of the offerings, from 1950 right through to the present day really.”
While Mr Burns said the auction has plenty of hidden secrets, he admitted the Holden LJ Torana 1972 and Holden 1969 HK GTS Monaro has gathered the most interest.
Canowindra Motors will host Friday and Saturday’s sale before Sunday’s vehicle auction at the Showground from 1pm.
Friday’s sale commences at 1pm and Saturday’s at 9am.
The public can inspect the collection at both venues on Friday between 10am and 5pm.
Charlie McCarron started Canowindra Motors with his brother, John, in 1955.
He became the GMH dealer principal in August 1959 and commenced the sell out of the FC Model. The trophy for his sales success was a stirling silver tray.
When Charlie built his residence in Winton Street, a large brick shed became the nucleus of his motor museum, which is regarded as one of the best Holden collections in Australia.
