Gooloogong proved far superior in Saturday’s Garry Smith Memorial Challenge, easily defeating Canowindra and Burrengong on their way to claiming the trophy, while honoring former teammate Garry Smith.

The Cowboys defeated the Canowindra Tigers 34-4, winning the Nugget Cup in the process, before securing the inaugural trophy with a 30-12 triumph over Burrengong in the final.
Cowboys captain Matt Frazer was recognised as the Player of the Day, while Desi Doolan was awarded man of the match in the Nugget Cup.
All proceeds on the day went to the Men of League.
Event organiser Steve Sinclair says close to $10,000 was raised.

“We’re expecting to hand over a check to Men of League in the vicinity of $10,000,” he said.
“The support from the community was really good. We had in excess of 200 people through the gate.
“All in all it was a good day.”
Sinclair suggested that for many of the Cowboys players Saturday was potentially they’re final game of football, but he’s hoping the event is something that becomes regular on the calendar each year.
