Lisa and Tabitha visited Carinya and spoke with the children about maintaining their bikes, for example pumping up their tyres, checking their brakes, ensuring their chain is safe and making sure their bell works.
Safe helmets were also a targeted for NSW Bike Week at Carinya. Tabitha and Lisa helped the children to check their helmet by ensuring there was 2 fingers width between their eyebrows and their helmet, that their finger slid firmly under the chin strap and that the straps under their ear made a firm V shape.
Cowra Council gave each child a sample bag with goodies and bike safety information. This included the Cowra Rides Guide and a NSW Bike Week activity booklet put together by Cowra Council.
“It is important that wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter is a habit formed from an early age,” said Carinya Director Susan Callaghan.
