Hughes has been rewarded following an impressive end to the Sheffield Shield last season, where he registered his maiden and second first-class hundreds.
He has one NSW cap to his name in the limited overs format, that was back in February of 2013 against Hobart.
He scored 17 not out that day, and the Blues won by 37 runs.
NSW play its first game against the Cricket Australia XI on October 7 at Hurstville Oval.
The Blues were only defeated once last year on their way to Matador Cup glory.
