The September meeting will be held Thursday, September 1 at the Senior’s Rooms next to Woolworths at 7.30pm. Will Bennett will give a talk on his recent adventure.
Being a local farmer, the best holiday William can think of is to get on a small boat and sail the ocean and to be able to combine that with the Antarctic landscape, wildlife and ecosystem studies seemed perfect.
Hence the Bark Europa, a three masted square rigger 50 metres long with 50 aboard, set sail from Ushwara, Argentina.
First stop, South Shetlands, then the Antarctic mainland for two weeks.
Then to South Georgia for a further two weeks of wildlife studies, retracing Shackleton and tracking the recovery of the Island with the elimination of Rats and Reindeer.
Finally to the island of Tristan Da Cunha, mid Atlantic, most isolated place on earth and home to 290 people.
Then after two months of travels into Cape Town, South Africa.
