But Cowra Magpies First Division captain-coach Ryan Downing believes the Magpies are in as good position as any.
“In a way it can be a positive,” Downing said when asked if knowing each game is sudden-death plays in Cowra’s favour.
“A lot of sides are probably looking down on us as easy beats.
“We know exactly what we have to do to make the big one. And we know what’s required on and off the field and I think we’re capable of doing it.”
Cowra’s finals campaign begins this Saturday in Oberon against the Tigers, who have been victorious in both the two sides’ previous encounters this year.
Cowra were depleted on both occasions when a converted try or less has been the margin, firstly in Oberon 10-4 and again in Cowra 14-10.
Downing identified Oberon’s ability to gain an advantage through its big men as his side’s main concern, but he’s confident that Cowra has the body’s to repel them.
“We have to do well holding up the middle. Our front rowers Zac Noble and Hayden Tidswell are our fire power in terms of the forwards. The rest need to play consistent.”
Cowra are coming off a thumping victory against Hawks last weekend, and are expected to field the same line-up.
“We’ve played two close games this year and now we’re full strength. With injuries minimal and coming off the win last weekend we’re pretty confident,” Downing said.
Cowra face the Tigers at the Oberon Sportsground from 12.45pm this Saturday.
