Mr King is the manager of the historic Coombing Park property that has seven kilometres of the track running along its western boundary, and is host to one of the number of bridges that needs to be replaced.
“This track hasn’t been used for freight for well over a decade,” he said, “The cost of replacing all of them would be in the hundreds of millions.”
Rather than trains, Mr King said that the government should investigate the track’s destination tourism potential similar to those in northern Victoria and New Zealand.
“Imagine riding from Mandurama to Carcoar and going through the tunnel and then maybe having a coffee in the town, or even staying there and the next day riding to Blayney,” he said, “This would pump much needed money into the local communities and could become an iconic destination ride.”
