Carpenter was introduced as a substitute for mid-fielder Caitlin Foord in the 75th minute and quickly displayed her exceptional speed and skill on the Aussie flank.
The result sealed Carpenter and the Matildas a spot in the quarterfinals where it will face off against one of of the world’s heavyweights USA or hosts Brazil.
At 16 years and three months of age Carpenter is Australia’s youngest member of the Olympic team.
Carpenter began her football journey at the Cowra junior soccer fields 12 years ago.
She was registered at the club from 2004 to 2010 before chasing her dream in Sydney.
