After a big storm Friday night the course was made playable thanks to the hard work of Supernintendo Hayes, Club President Robert Oliver, his son Nick and Vice President John Campbell who spend the morning manning chainsaws cutting up and removing a number of trees and limbs that had been dislodged throughout the course.
Scoring proved to be quite difficult with the course playing very long thanks to the overnight drenching along with a solid breeze sweeping across the fairways. David Fagan after some recent poor form snuck in during the week for a lesson and it proved to be a very wise decision as he had the score of the day with 38 points including an eagle on his first hole of the day. Chris Wilson and Matt Thompson continued their recent good form with 37 points along with Ed Anthony and Jacob McNaught who were the only players to better their handicaps on the day.
A-grade: 1st - David Fagan 38 points; 2nd - Jacob McNaught 37 points B-grade: 1st - Ed Anthony 37 points C/B; 2nd - Matt Thompson 37 points C/B Subway NTPs: 5th - John Bischof; 7th - Graeme Clements; 14th - Wayne Howard; 16th - Garry Picker. Ball rundown went to 33 points on a countback.
Next Saturday is a 4 Person Ambrose event sponsored by Bradd Kennedy, Wally Webb, Ted McAlister and Bruce Stammers along with local businesses the Cowra Hotel, Cowra Diagnostic Imaging, Tivoli Fresh and Skinners Meats.
Ralph Stretton and Jeff MacPherson were the winners in the Thursday Veterans 9 hole event. In a small field of 6 players the guys shone above the rest.
Harold Bryant and Noel Riley were the two stars on Tuesday both claiming a prize for themselves with some solid scoring.
Looking ahead we have a visit from a team of junior golfers from North Ryde coming up in September to contest the Stretton Shield which celebrates its 20th anniversary. Anyone interested contact the pro shop.
Upcoming: Saturday - 4 Person Ambrose. Wednesday August 3 - Ladies Stableford. Thursday August 4 - Midweek Pro Competition. Saturday August 6 - Monthly Medal.
