The Blues stormed home late to snatch victory from the claws of defeat, kicking two goals in the final 10 minutes while keeping the Bathurst club scoreless.
The result extends the distance between themselves and the third placed Rebels to three wins with five regular rounds remaining.
Coach Mark Dixon praised the commitment of his troops, who were forced to play in Parkes rather than at Mulyan Oval and had to begin at 12.15pm.
“We were a man short for a quarter before a few blokes drove over when they finished work and played the second half, it was a win for the ages,” coach Mark Dixon said.
“We have something good going. We have a good bond and are winning close games that would have been respectable losses.
“[One point wins] are pretty galvanising, it was a good result for this time of year. I couldn’t have been happier.
“We had good number at training on Tuesday and I’m expecting that again tonight,” he said.
This Saturday, Cowra again travel to Parkes this time to play the fourth placed Panthers, who the Blues accounted for 13.14-92 to 7.7-49 in round seven.
Dixon expects the Panthers to bring a physical approach knowing they have the size advantage.
“[Parkes] are going okay, they’re physical and they have a lot of tall blokes compared to our side,” he said.
“It should be an interesting match and a good game.”
The Blues will be close to full strength and it’s likely promising youngster Tyrone McKeown will return after recovering from a few broken ribs.
Following this weekend, the Blues finish the regular rounds with games against the Rebels, Young Saints, Orange Tigers and Dubbo Demons.
“If we can continue how we’re going there’ll be healthy competition between players for spots later in the season and we’ll be able to field our most competitive side,” Dixon said.
Parkes Panthers and Cowra Blues do battle from 2.30pm at North Parkes Oval this Saturday.
In other games this Central West AFL round the Bushrangers Rebels and Outlaws will clash, Bathurst Giants host Dubbo Demons and Young play Orange.
