On one hand we have the Bastille Day fireworks in Nice attacked by a lone man in a lorry, killing 84 of the celebrating attendees and a coup in Turkey.
And on the other we have an application letting people catch Pokemon in the real world with a peak active user base of 25 million people and the 50th anniversary of Play School.
With the world the way it is, it’s not surprising we are reaching for anything to distract us from the day to day violence that surround us.
I’m not saying that everyone who spends their time catching Pokemon or looking through the arched window is spending their time being unproductive. In fact I myself have spent time catching Pokemon and reflecting on telling the time on the rocket clock.
But there is a space now for an entrepreneuring young person or group of people to make the world a better place, all they need is the support to do so.
It was mentioned numerous times back in January at the Australia day celebrations that the youth of today should volunteer more to take a more active role in their community.
But why not take that a step further, lets give the youth of today greater responsibility and the opportunity to shine and forge a new path of their own.
Given the opportunity, some of those out there catching ‘em all could be the future leaders that we need to set the world straight. Instead of making fun of their new hobby and knocking it down lets build it up and give those using it, the confidence to take their hobby into another area.
It’s already been shown how many people are dissatisfied with the current leaderships with candidates like Pauline Hanson being elected back to Parliament.
Perhaps if we focused our efforts into them without judging their choice of hobbies they may surprise us with what they can do.
Lets encourage them and show them how they can use their hobbies in a broader sense and apply them to the issues of today.
All it could take is one peak of interest from the older generations into the younger generations hobbies to make those who feel they’ve been abandoned them to spark an interest in the younger generations to take part in world politics. Lets take an interest so that they can take charge.
