While there is notable signs of improvement each week, Cowra have slumped to consecutive defeats during their past two outings.
Hayes has put a focus on attack, knowing his troops are more than capable in the defence.
“There’s big positives. Last game was a really good game of football our defence was outstanding but defending for 60 minutes of an 80 minute match wears you down,” Hayes said.
“I’m not blaming the weather but it hasn’t been running rugby. We need to score points and they’ll come. Our back line will fire.”
Hayes said Bathurst will look to dominate possession.
“They’ll try and wear us down. We just have to tighten up and make sure we turn defence into attack.”
Cowra play Bathurst Bulldogs at Ashwood Park on Saturday from 3.15pm.
