It was frustrating watching the Blues fail during game two on Wednesday night.
I think it was Queensland’s big men who restricted NSW from stamping their presence on the game, mainly through their ability to roll through the middle and consistently gain massive metres.
It’ll be interesting to see what team Laurie Daley conjures up for game three with Adam Reynolds all-but ruled out, after dislocating his shoulder, and given skipper Paul Gallen intends to retire from Origin at the end of the series.
The pressure is on, Laurie.
Olympics
It’s now being reported some Russian track and field athletes may be able to compete at this year’s Summer Olympics, but instead of representing Russia they’ll be flying their own flag.
Competing as a neutral athlete at the Olympics does seem bizarre but if a Russian athlete can prove they haven’t been infected by their own nation’s systems, of course they should be able to compete.
I do, though, feel sorry for any Russian athlete who wins a medal at Rio purely because of the amount of speculation that will surround their success due to Russia’s doping scandal.
It’s completely marred the anticipation of the biggest sporting event on the 2016 calendar, which is only 42 days away.
Anyway, let’s hope Cowra’s Ellie Carpentar gets the nod from Alen Stajcic when he announces the Matildas squad next week which will board the plane to Rio.
I’m confident the Matildas can score a medal and help us improve on our tally of 35 from London 2012, eight of which were gold.
Wallabies
I’ll be watching the Wallabies and England third Test with one eye shut this weekend following the pain Michael Cheika’s men have put us through during the past fortnight.
Ill discipline has plagued the Aussies’ opening two Tests and England needed no invitation to continue their favourable fortunes under the care of former Wallaby coach Eddie Jones.
The Poms are now eight from eight with Eddie at the helm, a statistic I’m hoping ends after tomorrow night’s dead rubber at Allianz Stadium.
It’d also be good to see Eddie Jones’ smug smile wiped from his face. Wallabies by 3.
