Designer David Tooby from consultants King and Campbell is currently working with Council to look at options for the continuing upgrade that is designed to create a more pedestrian and visitor-friendly shopping precinct that reflects the cultural and social uniqueness of the Cowra.
"After the highly-successful Kendal St redevelopment completed earlier this year, we're not letting the grass grow under our feet, as we indicated at the time of the Kendal St upgrade, Council is looking at getting our footpath refurbishment underway by the end of this financial year," Cr West said.
The redesign and rebuild of the footpath precinct is budgeted for commencement during the current financial year and staged for completion over the coming couple of years.
"Once we've decided on the design parameters of the project, we're going to take it local businesses and the community to comment on this vital renewal initiative for our main street," Cr West said,.
The proposed redevelopment is likely to be opened for public comment and input by October this year with local businesses and ratepayers urged to "have their say.
"As with the $3 million Kendal Street redevelopment that Council completed as contractors for the Roads and Maritime Services, we are sure that this project will create much public comment and opinion on the best way to proceed, and we welcome that," Cr West said.
"With the main street road surface and pedestrian island completed, the footpath project soon to begin, and the Review of Environmental Factors for the proposed heavy vehicle bypass underway, Cowra Council is doing its best to create the most pleasant and vibrant central business district that we possibly can," Cr West concluded.
