BILLED as one of Orange CYMS’ star recruits for 2015, former Lithgow Workies and Bathurst Panthers back-rower Trent Rose hasn’t had an easy time watching the green and golds from the sidelines for much of the year.

“Frustrating” is the way he described his first season in green and gold, punctuated by a number of niggly injuries which have kept him from playing more than a sporadic role in CYMS’ run to the minor premiership. He’s played just seven games of a possible 11 so far.

“I had an arthroscopy on my knee at the start of the year, I had meniscus damage. I could’ve played with it but my physiotherapists said I’d be better off getting the clean out,” he said.

“I’ve picked up a couple of niggly little injuries since, I’ve had some lower back problems and a tear in a stomach muscle recently, so I definitely haven’t played as many games as I would’ve liked this season.

“But I’m back now for [tomorrow’s] game against Cowra. I’m feeling pretty fresh, and I’m really looking forward to it actually.”

Rose and his brother, Matt, joined CYMS from Panthers this year, with the latter saying earlier in the year “we didn’t see much direction from the (Panthers) board”, and both have enjoyed the spoils of CYMS’ resurgence after missing the finals last year.

That resurgence, and run to the minor title, continues tomorrow against Cowra at Wade Park, with the Magpies hell-bent on exacting revenge after letting an upset victory go begging in the corresponding fixture at Sid Kallas Oval in round seven.

“That was one of the games I played actually,” Rose laughed.

“They were probably pretty unlucky not to get the win there. We’re pretty confident going into every game now though, and I think for us it’s really about maintaining the simple things, those one per-centers.

“The game is really built on the one per-centers, and, like any team performing well, we need to make sure we’re focusing on doing them well. If we keep it up I can’t see any reason why we can’t put a few on Cowra.”

CYMS player-coach Mick Sullivan agreed, before lauding Rose as a player, and said he brings an “intimidation factor” to the side’s gargantuan forward pack.

“Cowra were pretty tough last time around, they were unlucky not to snatch a win against us at home,” Sullivan said.

“We’re wary of them, they’re a big side and they caused us a few problems last time around. So priority number one for us is just getting the win, but to put a few on them would be very nice as well.

“Trent’s brought a bit of aggression to the side, but it’s been very controlled. We’ve really fed off it. Trent’s been really good for us, he’s got good feet at the line and he’s been playing well.

“He has had a few niggles recently but he’s right to go now.”

Kick-off at Wade Park is scheduled for 2.30pm.
