Last year's premiers Bathurst St Pat's confirmed their fate last weekend handing the black and whites a 36-6 loss at Sid Kallas Oval.
Now only 160 minutes of footy is left for Cowra with the bye scheduled for next weekend before they finish up in Oberon on August 16.
But the focus turns to regaining some confidence when they lock horns with ladder leaders Orange CYMS this Sunday.
The Magpies kept them scoreless in the opening half of this season's previous encounter but surrendered their 14-point lead to lose 26-18.
Cowra coach Steve Sutton is hoping to turn that around at Wade Park.
"We just want to play a bit of footy and find some relief we talked about it at training and everyone's pretty down," Sutton said.
"We need to boost our confidence and a good start will go a long in doing that."
Sutton outlined CYMS as one of the most well balanced sides with an abundance of talent from one through to 17.
"They're very well balanced and they got some mongrel and aggression off the bench, they're probably one of the best balanced sides in the competition and they deserve to be where they are," Sutton said.
Shutting down Mick Sullivan in the halves while matching it with the likes of Simon Osbourne and Kyran Bubb in the forwards will be Cowra's main tasks.
One man who won't be in the contest, and comes as a blow for the Magpies, is Hayden Tidswell who misses a week after being sent off late last weekend against St Pat's.
Brendan Tidswell will move into the second row in his place while Tyrone Eastwood retains his spot on the wing and Toi Sepuloni will return to lock for Ricky Whitton to wear No.6.
The Magpies tackle CYMS at Wade Park on Sunday.
Meanwhile the under 18s and reserve grade will look to continue their form towards the finals.
The reserves are sitting favourably in third while the 18s are settled in second.
