This race saw the start of the Central West Combine transport with Cowra and Woodstock, Grenfell and Parkes all coming together although our next few races are still separate release until we get out further.
The 75 Cowra and Woodstock birds were first up at 10am (179 kilometres) followed by the 195 Grenfell birds at 10.30am (160 kilometres) and finally the 127 Parkes birds at 11am (88 kilometres).
The small mob of Cowra birds had it the hardest of all being first up having to contest with the ever growing number of peregrine falcons with such small numbers for cover.
Although there was no need to worry as the Cowra and Woodstock birds quality and preparation shone through with the birds flying at almost 150 metres per minute faster than the best bird in any of the other clubs with close to 100 percent returns by night fall.
This week also saw a return to form of the area's master flyer Ken Sigsworth, when Ken and his birds click they are unbeatable as was the case last year where Ken won everything in sight including first and second in the Midwest Cup which had birds competing from all over Australia.
He also placed first in the Country long distance championships from Roma (791 kilometres) and second in their other race from St George (631 kilometres).
Both these races were open to flyers from all over NSW and Victoria, he also finished second in the federation from both Burra (916 kilometres) and Waikerie (818 kilometres) beaten in both cases by flyers (50 kilometres) shorter than him in distance.
The results for the weekend were: 1st Ken Sigsworth 1292 meters per minute, 2nd Jon South 1238 meters per minute, 3rd Ken Noakes 1231 meters per minute and in 4th was Peter East 1206 meters per minute.
In the loft of the day result based on each flyers' first three birds home the results were: 1st Ken Sigsworth, 2nd Jon South, 3rd Ken Noakes and 4th Peter East, the birds were so quick last week that half the owners were caught out not expecting them home so soon, Peter East has since taken action by sacking his rooster and buying a new alarm clock so he wont be caught napping next week!
