We were delighted to be joined by 90 guests from Norths Pirates rugby club in Sydney who entered teams in both the under 9 and under 11 age groups.
With a great turnout from the other central west clubs the day was a feast of junior rugby.
Both the under 9s and the under 11s played Norths Pirates first up and the Cowra boys were certainly up for the challenge recording two solid victories and turning the tables on Pirates after a loss last year.
In the under 11s, the players recorded solid victories over Pirates and Orange City before falling asleep in the first half of the game against Parkes. Fortunately they woke up in time for the second half and rounded off the day with another solid victory.
The success of the day was founded on the solid go forward provided by the team muscle, Nico and Zach, as well as some outstanding play by Lakelan who is continuing his good early season form.
Riley benefited from the hard work done by the donkeys with some spectacular running tries.
The team is continuing to display a high level of skill and teamwork with their passing game particularly impressive.
The coaches are particularly pleased with the continued development and contribution being made to the team by younger players like Ben and Jack.
The under 9s contest with Norths Pirates started off as a close game with two tries a piece after 9 minutes.
Cowra then ran away with the game scoring 11 tries to 2.
Jyedon displayed some brilliant defence while Carter Langfield, Rory Sullivan and Lachlan Shady lead the way up front in the forwards.
The second game against Orange Emus Green was a much closer game with the final score being four tries to the Eagles and three tries to Orange. Tallis dominated scoring a birthday try and Charlie was brilliant around the back of the rucks. Well done guys.
In the third game the Eagles combined with the Norths Pirates in a friendly against Canowindra. Once again the Eagles/Pirates dominated with some outstanding defence.
Clancy made the most of every opportunity to score some great tries while Tom and Damien had great games in attack and defence.
The fourth game was against an Orange Emus side packed with massive strong running forwards.
Fortunately the Eagles soon worked out that the bigger they are the harder they fall and were too strong for the opposition again.
Josh was brilliant in defence aiming up to the big forwards and bringing them down with help from his team mates.
Seamus had an enjoyable day, well done Seamus for trying to put training drills into practice during game time.
The three points went to Josh, two points to Tallis and one point to Carter.
The coaches Norm and Danny were so proud of the team with every player putting in 110% effort in all games.
The under 7s were extremely keen for their second and home gala day of the season.
They had trained well and were determined to put on a strong showing on their home turf.
The first game was against our neighbours Canowindra.
The Pythons were as combative as ever and a tight game ensued.
Young Harry was much more confident after debuting last week at Wellington and was enthusiastic all game.
Drew, Rylee, Nate, and Hugh were our best on ground whilst it should be noted that newcomer Deakin is playing exceptionally well and is learning the game of rugby very quickly.
Jock has developed a great step in the off-season and made some good breaks.
Luke has similarly improved a heap and his strong straight runs were a great example to all of our boys that the first yards you make are guaranteed and easy.
In contrast to his usual bash and barge style Tom let fly with a few passes, one of which Hugh collected to make a great break. In the end the Pythons were tamed.
Our second game was against the Bathurst Bulldogs.
Whilst the Dogs did get away on us early we regrouped well to pull their lead back throughout the game.
Our defence was the feature in this game and all the boys worked hard to get back onside and advance in a line.
Drew scored a couple of great tries in this game by outpacing the lumbering Dogs to the try line.
Rylee continued to dazzle with footwork and Nate took advantage every time the Dogs relaxed (and he threw a couple of great passes too).
Hugh showed the Dogs a clean pair of heals to make a couple of length of field breaks and has definitely found some pace over the off-season. Jock, Deakin and Luke had BIG games in defence; they were relentless. We came from behind to dominate the Dogs.
Our last game was against the Millthorpe Mozzies.
The Mozzies are a newly minted club and it was great to see their boys enjoying their rugby.
We enjoyed a really fun game against the Mozzies.
Even though tired after a long day Harry played very well in this game and we look forward to watching his continued development.
Tom didn't let us down and threw a couple of forward rolls in between tries and the rest of the boys played the house down.
The Mozzies will only get better and they will be a formidable team with a couple more gala days under their belt.
