In this charming adaptation based on the popular L. Frank Baum stories, Dorothy and her dog Toto are caught in a tornado's path and somehow end up in the Land of Oz. Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home.
She's helped by the Good Witch of the North, but she's also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for the death of her sister; the Wicked Witch of the East, for which she blames Dorothy.
Here she meets some memorable friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home and possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart and courage.
Featuring the great songs from the movie; "Over the Rainbow", "Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead", "Follow the Yellow Brick Road/You're Off to See the Wizard", "If I Only Had a Brain" "The Merry Old Land of Oz" and "If I Were King of the Forest". The society will also be including a song originally deleted from the movie "The Jitterbug".
Aside from the lead characters: Dorothy, Professor Marvel/Wizard, Zeke/Cowardly Lion, Hunk/Scarecrow, Hickory/Tin Man, Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch, Glinda the Good Witch, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry and of course Toto, there are plenty of opportunities for supporting cast in the form of Munchkins, Emerald City residents, Winkies (Wicked Witches' guards) Winged Monkeys and as mentioned before Jitterbugs.
Producer Robyn Ryan is delighted to be bringing The Wizard of Oz to the Cowra stage. "This is an exciting production for the Cowra M&D. It is a wonderful story."
