At the time of press, the Go Fund Me drive for Ricky Kemp and his family has raised $2340 in just 15 hours.
Coordinating the campaign is family friend, Kristie Reid, who said its important the community dig deep.
"We set it up so we could help out such an amazing down-to-earth family in [their] time of need," Ms Reid said.
"[The Kemps] are a really amazing local family. I've known them for nearly 15 years and they are honoured by the support of the community."
Ms Reid said money from the campaign would go to alleviating the family of the financial burden of bills and accommodation costs while Mr Kemp is recovering in hospital.
She said the funds would allow Mr Kemp's wife Julie to help him with his recovery without worrying about money and the family to make some alterations to their house so he can be comfortable when he does come home.
"It's such a devastating thing that's happened and you always think it'll never happen to you or someone you know. They're a very well-known family [and] they've been really grateful and appreciative of the campaign so far," Ms Reid said.
The campaign is the first of a number of fund raising activities planned for the family.
Organisers are also calling for businesses to donate goods, money or services for a raffle.
People who'd like to contribute to the raffle can contact Kristie Reid on 0419203548 or Melissa Flannery on 0422205984.
