A date has been set for a homecoming week for former residents, first proposed on the Facebook group 'You know you're from Cowra when...'.
The reunion will be held from September 13 to 18, 2016, to tie in with the 2016 Cowra Show.
A similar homecoming event was also run in conjunction with the Cowra Show in 1979.
A public meeting to scope out interest in holding the event attracted more than 20 business leaders, community group representatives and local residents, including the founder of the Facebook group where it all began, Michael Nobes.
They decided the show would kick off six days of celebrations, culminating in a carnival-style picnic day in River Park on the Saturday after the Cowra Show.
Schools and community groups would be encouraged to coordinate their own activities during the week, including displays and tours.
Licenced premises would also be encouraged to capitalise on the extra bodies in town by putting on live entertainment.
There's even talk of running a market-style event, like the Cowra Christmas Night Markets, in Kendal Street on the Friday evening.
Accommodation providers would be the big winner, with the date chosen to buoy lulls between peak tourism months.
Manning the proverbial whiteboard marker for the homecoming week is Marc McLeish, who said their next challenge is to coin a name and a catchcry for the as yet unnamed event.
"This Facebook group caught my attention because it was fun to swap stories and photos but [I think it's more significant] because there's been a level of negativity in town over the last few years. This a big step forward," Mr McLeish said.
"We're currently working budgetless [but] the reality is, you've only got to have half of the Facebook group turn up and we'll have a weekend. I think you'd be crazy not to get involved."
He said everyone is welcome to come along to the next meeting on Wednesday, February 25, at 6pm at the
Townhouse.
