With personal best times bettered in nearly every swim, one particular standout performance has "put Cowra on the National map," in swimming terms.
Lucy Wilson, club captain for 2014-15, swam the race of her life in the heats of the 15-years 100m breaststroke to finish second in the heat in a time of 1:19.31 (an Australian age qualifying time) to book herself a berth in the finals in tenth position.
In the finals, Lucy bettered her time to finish ninth in a time of 1:18.86, well under the National qualifying time of 1:20.00.
Lucy knows all too well the disappointment that is a part of every swimmers journey, having spent two frustrating years with little or no improvements until very late in the season.
Two years ago she persisted through chronic knee injury and since she has dogmatically perfected and changed her breaststroke technique to bring her to this stage.
Whilst others in her situation may have given up, Lucy's persistence has paid dividends and allowed her talent to now be highlighted on the National stage.
Her next step is the Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships which are held later this year in Sydney, on April 13-20.
She will be joined by Cowra swimming products Ben and Josie Gillham who now swim for Kinross Wolaroi.
Cowra Stingrays State Age swimmers were:
Jade Browne (50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 4x50m freestyle relay), Georgia Lewis (50m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 4 x 50m freestyle relay), Madeleine Cain (4 x 50m freestyle relay) and Jade TeWeehi (4 x 50m freestyle relay), Lucy Wilson (100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke), Imogen Drinkwater (50m Freestyle), Hugh Gillham (50m Freestyle).
All swimmers should be congratulated for their performances in Sydney, where in all senior events they were the sole participants from seasonal programs and finished, at worst, midway through the field.
Congratulations Stingrays!
