Council submitted an expression of interest for $90, 000 of State Government funding under the NSW Water Security for Regions grant scheme last September to assist with the drilling of test bores at three sites in the Billimari and Merriganowry areas.
Sites on Gem Road, Grenfell Road and North Logan Road would be drilled in order to establish yield and determine a location for a permanent bore.
The bore would ultimately link into Cowra's reticulated water network.
The proposal was shortlisted among 29 projects state-wide, including new pipelines in the Broken Hill, Cabonne, Orange, Tweed and Upper Hunter local government areas, water supply upgrades in Bombala, Carrathool and Upper Lachlan Shires and bore projects in Brewarrina, Conargo, Gilgandra and Warrumbungle Shires.
A more detailed application is being reviewed by a Regional Independent Assessment Panel before projects are shortlisted again. Infrastructure NSW will then make final recommendations to the NSW Government, who will then allocate funding.
Successful projects are expected to be announced in March.
Up to $83 million is up for grabs in this round of funding.
