This is the first event of the series being staged outside of the club's home waters at Windsor and Executive secretary Nadine Brown reckons it will give riders and the sport a great opportunity for more exposure and growth.
"Australia can boast exceptional talent in this sport world wide and we have numerous members - most of which will be riding at this series - that have recently returned from a stint in the USA, living the endless summer, riding competitively and winning world and Pro Tour Titles," Nadine Brown said.
Most riders will be backing up after the Australian Open, one of the larger events on the Australian wakeboarding calender, held on the Molongalo River in Canberra last weekend.
New South Wales' Zahra Kell, Sam Brown, Nic Rapa and Tony Lacconi all won their respective Australian Open titles while Lewy Watt, Elliot Digney and Jett Ellis scored podium finishes.
All those mentioned have been round winners in their divisions during this summer's series and are expected to be in action next weekend.
In particular worth keeping an eye on are, Tony Lacconi (19 years-old, Rockstar Energy Drink sponsored professional wakeboarder with a stack of Australian and USA titles to his name), Sam Brown (12 years-old, back to back 2013-2014 World Wakeboard Association (WWA) boys world champion) and Zahra Kell (10 years-old, 2014 WWA girls world champion).
The competition day will be held on Saturday, January 31 while there will also be come-and-try free ride days held on the Friday and Sunday where anyone can have a go either behind or in the boat with the professionals.
Competition description-
A wakeboard tournament is an event where a Wake boarder (rider) demonstrates his/her individual skills whilst being towed behind a boat over two short watercourse passes (approximately 370m).
Each rider is allowed two falls. After the final fall, they are picked up by a smaller boat called a 'pick up boat'
There are three qualified judges in the boat who score the rider's tricks based on three important criteria (intensity, execution, composition).
Each rider is competing in a NSW division governed by their ability.
The rider's score is compared to others in the division to find the best rider on the day.
The scores are tallied over the season to find an overall series winner of each division:
Divisions-
Level 1- Rookie (single wake jumps)
Level 2- Straight Air under 16s and over 16s (wake to wake grabs and 180's)
Level 3- Inverter (up to 2 advanced tricks- inverts/spins/raley)
Level 4- Advanced (unlimited inverts and spins up to 540's)
Level 5- Mobe Club (up to 3 mobes and spins up to 540's)
Level 6- Professional (unlimited)
These divisions are skill / competency based and allow riders of similar ability to ride against each other, regardless of age or experience.
