The reigning Group 10 coach of the year, who this year guided the Magpies to their first home grand final in 18 years, is a much needed re-signing for the club after recent news of incumbent halfback Tim Holman signing with Group 11 club Forbes.
In further bad news the Magpies have also failed to re-sign Ingram brothers Will and Phil with Will joining round one opponents Blayney and Phil likely to take the captain-coach role with Woodbridge Cup team Grenfell.
Furthermore, on Wednesday news struck Cowra that the hard-running KJ Wood had also joined Forbes - along with Holman - causing more headaches for last year's Group 10 grand finalists.
Despite making "very good offers" Steve Sutton said the Magpies are finding it hard to match it with the big spenders of the region.
"We made him (Tim Holman) a very good offer and we had plans in place to move him here (Cowra) and eventually take over as captain-coach the next year," Sutton said.
"With Forbes and Blayney on either side of us spending stupid money we could get picked apart."
Sutton said Cowra need to act fast if they are to retain the services of their core group, something which he is more concerned with then player recruitment.
"I'm more worried about retaining the team as a whole," Sutton said.
"We just have to get some people to sign the dotted line then we can worry about external recruitment."
Despite the news of Holman moving to Group 11 coming through this week Sutton says he's been on the case of filling the gap now vacant in the halves.
"I've made a stack of phone calls and sent out some feelers," Sutton said.
However when asked whether he had an idea of who might wear the Magpie's number seven jersey in 2015, Sutton replied: "None whatsover."
The Cowra Magpies have also recently announced their committee for 2015 which sees co-Presidents Dean Murray and Brett Jeffries retain their roles.
They will be joined on the committee by Marty Annetts (Vice President), Jane Jeffries (secretary/Registrar), Tanya Murray (Treasurer) and Bob Hilton (Publicity Officer).
Reserve grade have appointed Ryan Downing and Caley Mok as coaches in 2015 while Brett Jeffries will take over the under 18s job.
The League-Tag coach is yet to be announced.
