Cowra is nominated for the Cultural Heritage Award for this year’s 70th Breakout Anniversary Commemorations, while Gooloogong is up for the Office of Environment and Heritage Community Actions and Partnerships Award in population category A.
Darbys Falls was also nominated in this year’s awards, but missed out on the finals.
Tidy Towns program manager Lyndall Holstein said every entrant in this year’s program should be congratulated for the commitment they show to their communities.
“It was a field full of Phar Laps this year. Darbys Falls was fantastic and they should keep up the good work. I was so fortunate to be in Cowra for the Breakout Commemorations and was even lucky enough to meet Mr Murikami. The Gooloogong community is so strong and so vibrant, they’re really doing a lot to keep their town alive. There were a lot of strong contenders this year,” Ms Holstein said.
Tidy Towns is the longest running of all Keep Australia Beautiful NSW’s programs. This year 43 towns across New South Wales entered the program, with a total of 174 submissions across 11 categories
“Tidy Towns continues to provide communities across NSW with the opportunity to celebrate what makes their towns great, as well as their commitment to improving their towns,” Ms Holstein said.
Last year’s NSW Overall Tidy Town, Nundle, will host the 2014 awards weekend from November 7 - 9.
Ms Holstein said the community at large is welcome to attend the awards weekend in Nundle.
I would strongly encourage everyone to come along to Nundle,” Ms Holstein said.
“We have a great range of activities planned to showcase just why Nundle took out the coveted title last year.”
Other regional finalists include: Forbes, Lithgow, Orange, Leeton and Wagga Wagga.
