Last Saturday, single age pensioners received an increase of up to $11.50 a fortnight, while age pensioner couples received up to $17.40 extra a fortnight.
Now, total pension payments for people on the maximum rate are $854.30 a fortnight for singles, and $1,288 a fortnight for couples.
Cowra resident and pensioner Gaye L'Estrange said while it's not hard to survive on the pension, you've certainly got to be careful.
She said when big expenses come up, it's a bit more worrying, and you've really got to plan ahead.
"[The increase] will certainly help with travel expenses for specialist appointments in Orange, every little bit adds up and petrol is not getting any cheaper," Ms L'Estrange said.
"I'll take whatever little bit I can get."
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said income support payments such as Newstart and the Parenting Payment have also increased.
He said there has been some concern raised in recent community forums he has held that the age pension has been cut."
"There are some 17,800 pensioners in Hume who will continue to receive an increase to the pension in March and September each year under the Abbott Government," Mr Taylor said.
"From September 2017, pension increases will be linked to the cost of living, rather than to wages."
