I would like to respond to your correspondent [Your Say 17th Sep] who expressed disappointment at her experience at the recent Cowra Show.
The Cowra Show Society regrets that your correspondent did not enjoy her experience.
The Show Society actually reduced the 1st day entry fee in response to comment last year that the majority of the free entertainment was scheduled on the second day.
The policy of granting concessional entry to Aged Pension holders only, has been a very long standing policy of the Society.
With respect to the quality of food available on the second day, I am a little perplexed.
In addition to the traditional Carnival food outlets there were many wonderful food options including, The Cowra Cancer Action Group Cafe in the Pavilion, the Cowra High School BBQ staffed by parents and students, the Show Society / Rotary BBQ at the Rodeo, a local Asian hot food stall, and many regular quality suppliers selling Pizza baked on site to order, pancakes cooked on site, fresh strawberries etc.
With respect to your correspondent's criticism of the craft exhibits, I would respectfully point out that the Show Society is a volunteer organisation.
We rely on community members to put their hand up to help in the many aspects of running a country show and we would welcome any member of the public who would like to join us.
Finally I would like to say that the Cowra Community's response to this year's show has been very positive. The array of free entertainment offered on the main day [Wed] this year included a Roving Magician, 4 Performances of the Racing Pigs, 4 performances of Toots Magic Show for Kids, 3 performances of the Rampt Mini FMX stunt Motor Bikes, the Cowra Machinery Cowra Rodeo, with leading riders from all over the State, and a wonderful Fireworks display sponsored by local business Lachlan Fertilisers Rural.
It is by far the best line up of free entertainment in many years and we were rewarded with a wonderful crowd on Wednesday night.
Ian Packer.
President Cowra Show Society.
